A Quick and Easy “Free Book Highlighter” Service to Help Authors Get the Word Out About Free Book Listings!

April 21, 2011

With thousands of free books available on Amazon, it will take an additional push to help differentiate your book. So we’ve created a simple, inexpensive service to help you share your free title with our readers.

Your free book listing will be included in a post (like this one) listing up to 15 free books that will appear on the Kindle Nation website, a link (like this one) for the 178,000 fans of our Facebook pages, and included in a post in our daily dedicated newsletter. The post and the Facebook update will go up on our website between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Eastern time, almost always before 1:30 pm EST. If you are having trouble finding your post, please check our Facebook page after 2 pm EST.

Here’s how it works:

  1. You create a free book promotion — for a specific date or date range of up to 5 days — for one of your titles at Amazon’s Kindle Digital Publishing (KDP) dashboard. Please be aware that we cannot help you with this process; it is between you (or your publisher) and Amazon. You must complete this process by 6 a.m. Eastern on the day your book will be highlighted for us to include it in our Free Book Highlighter Service for that day. Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure that your book is free on the date(s) in question. If your book is not free on the date in question, we will remove it from our post, and will not be able to refund your payment.
  2. Next, sign up for our Free Book Highlighter Service — at our low price of $29.99 per title per day — using the PayPal button below.

  3. After payment you will be taken to a landing page where you must provide the information we need to highlight your book’s status as a free title. If you are not taken to the landing page, please try this link.

To keep the cost of this service low, it is a relatively automated service without scheduling confirmation emails. Thanks in advance for paying close attention to the steps outlined above and providing all information exactly as requested. Please be sure to enter your information our FREE BOOK HIGHLIGHTER Landing Page after you have paid, or your book will not be featured!

Thanks, and we look forward to working with you!

Can this be scheduled in advance or do you have to do it on the day of?

Scheduling in advance is fine, and in fact much appreciated, Pav.

I’m a little confused: as do many indie writers, I listed my novel with Kindle/Amazon, but simulataneously Smashwords. I have no control over their distribution. So it would make no sense for me to attempt to register for Select, limiting my book exclusivity to Amazon. However, I would like to promote it through the FBHS service. Is there any way around this?

    • Steve Windwalker on February 5, 2012 at 9:01 am

      Hi Lichen,
The point of control for you, should you choose to exercise it, lies in whether you choose to list your book via Smashwords. Among Amazon’s purposes in the design of the KDP Select program is to get authors to list through KDP exclusively. As a company, Kindle Nation Daily is entirely separate from Amazon.

    Hi Steve,
I’m interested in using this service as part of a KDP select promotion. However, I’m concerned about purchasing first only to find that my date is not available. I’m interpreting this promo option as one where you’ll list a freebie with 14 others and that is a cap. Am I incorrect? (Hope so, actually!)

    Thanks for your help.

    • Steve Windwalker on April 24, 2012 at 4:46 pm

Tina, we currently guarantee availability for the Free Book Highlighter option as long as you sign up before 6 am EST on the day in question. Hope that helps.

I notice that unlike the other sponsorship options, there is no calendar here to check availability. Can we just assume that it will be available and you won’t get more than 15 people signing up in a day? Or will you do more than one post if you get too many books?
Thanks for all the great stuff on the site!

    • Steve Windwalker on February 23, 2012 at 3:45 pm

Edward, we’re feeling our way into this, but as you suggested, we’ll do more than one post if we get too many books. Hope that helps.

I have a permafree novella on Amazon that is also available on other retailers. Can I feature this book or do I have to enroll in KDP select? Thanks for the clarification. Love what you guys are doing.

    • Paula on November 30, 2016 at 10:49 pm

You do not need to be a part of KDP select to use the any of the sponsorship programs.
